if you haven’t seen the show, then don’t read this!  some spoilers ahead!
this is, hands down, my favorite television show right now!  sorry golden girls!
this is england ‘86 debuted in september 7th, 2010.  it takes place three years after the events in the film this is england.  3 and a half million people still unemployed, the world cup is in mexico, and the gang seems to be more into the mod subculture rather than the skinhead subculture in the film.
i’m sure there are questions one would have after watching this show:
-why are meggy and banjo hanging out with the gang after they joined the national front in the film this is england?
-how can mr. sandhu forgive shaun for his actions in the film?
well, the way i see it, meggy, banjo and sean didn’t know any better!  shaun was a child in the previous film and believed everything combo told him, and mr. sandhu knew shaun’s mom and was well aware that shaun was hanging out with the wrong crowd.
meggy and banjo, on the other hand, might of realized that combo was not their friend, but someone that was confused and unstable.  with the unemployment rate at around 3 and a half million, people were struggling and were blaming it on the increasing pakistani population.  like milky said in one of the episodes, “the past is in the past!”  would you forgive them?  well, if someone realized they made a horrible mistake and learned from their horrible mistakes, then yes, maybe i would.
what i love about the show is the sense of comradery amongst the gang!  every time i watch the show, i wish i had a colorful group of friends like them, but also, they seem like the friends you need when you fall on hard times, whether you are having problems at home, struggling with finding a job, you are in bad health, you’re heartbroken, etc.  don’t get me wrong, i love my friends, but the chemistry amongst the actors here is AMAZING!
the show is funny, shocking, and tense at times.  the rape scenes can be a bit much for one to sit through, but i can not recommend this show enough!  find it on youtube or netflix!  the wikipedia page says that this is england ‘88 is followed by this series.  i wonder what that is going to be like!

(Andy’s note: This piece is the third in a loose series on sexism in punk and hardcore. You can check out the first and second pieces here and here.)

It all started this weekend in Mccarren Park. The Two Funerals were in town from Richmond and we were…

an amazing time will be had!  and you thought there was nothing to do in the berkshieres … (well, i’m guilty of saying that as well!)

have been neglecting this little site, but i have just been connecting to some pretty fucking awesome people, so i hope my posts entertain them.
almost halfway through the semester, and this has been the most difficult semester.  senioritis has kicked in very early, and the workload is overbearing!  somehow i make it thorugh, but this semester is going to be different!

yep.  valentine’s day.  i used to get very crabby about it, and people i know around here still like to say “fuck this holiday!”

i still wonder if they’re acting this way because they don’t have anyone or it’s cool to be a crabby single person.

honestly, i feel good in the weirdest way.  i don’t talk to many people, i don’t have anyone to celebrate this holiday with, very few people call me and i love it!  i’ve got a crap load of school work, so it helps get my mind off of the usual north adams drama that happens around here.  i did, however, receive two texts from my friends here in town, and the fact that they even said something is nice!

this song was the first song i ever heard from neutral milk hotel. i was 22, in maine, and my ex-girlfriend was playing old tapes of her radio show when she went to bates college.  she really should have pursued a career in radio.  unlike many people, i think she would’ve done well.

but the time i heard it, i kept rewinding the tape every time it ended.  yes, it was that fucking good.  i never heard of them, and was not aware of the crazy following jeff magnum had.

i’ve been listening to this all day, and it is helping me enjoy the day.  i hope it helps you as well.

i was listening to off with their heads this morning and was reading their lyrics about feeling trapped and going nowhere with life.  the funny thing is, it’s how i feel about a lot of people in this town.  of course, the last lyrics talk about killing yourself, which i do not agree on.

i feel like people are too much in their comfort zone here and need to try and take a chance and get out, but will find all sorts of excuses.  yes, even i am guilty of a few things that i have not tried to pursue, but i’m proud of the things i have attempted.  some of it was a success, and some of it was a failure, but i feel like i am a better person because of it.  but really, why are people so scared to take a fucking risk?

why i don’t i just shut up and let you enjoy the song?

why do i even bother starting these damn blogs?  i have dabbled in social networks, twitter, and now tumblr.  do people really give a damn about what i have to say?

every time i look at what i write, i even bore myself!

i live in a small town (well, city technically) of 14,000, and i’m only here for one reason:  school.  after blowing off school for 7 years, i finally re-enrolled into school fall of 2009 and am pursuing my bachelor’s degree and will graduate in december of 2011.  it’s been a rocky road these last three years.  i have learned a lot about the people of this city and about myself.  i love new england, but some places can become a trap, and i used to be afraid of being trapped, but i am now plotting my escape this coming december!  been trying to stay optimistic, but it’s hard when you’re a soon-to-be 31 year-old surrounded by people who don’t know how to grow up!

i’ll shut up and let you watch this video!
